Better CPAs respects your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use and protect personal information, in line with British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and, where it applies, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

What we collect

When you contact us or become a client, we may collect your name, email address, phone number, business name, and information about your business and tax situation. For clients, we also collect the financial records and documents needed to provide bookkeeping, tax, payroll and reporting services.

How we use it

We use your information to respond to enquiries, provide the services you engage us for, file returns and remittances with the Canada Revenue Agency and other government agencies on your behalf, and meet our professional and legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information.

Who we share it with

We share information only as needed to provide our services, for example with the Canada Revenue Agency, with the cloud accounting and payroll software providers we use to serve you, or where required by law or by our professional regulator. Some of these providers may store data outside British Columbia or Canada.

How we protect it

We keep personal information confidential under CPA professional conduct rules and use reasonable safeguards to protect it. Please do not send tax slips, identification or bank statements through the website contact form. We will arrange a secure way to share documents.

How long we keep it

We keep records only as long as needed for the purposes above and to meet legal and professional retention requirements, including CRA record-keeping rules.

This website

Our website host may collect basic technical information, such as IP address and browser type, to operate and secure the site. Messages sent through the contact form are delivered to us by email.

Your rights

You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent to its use, subject to legal and contractual limits. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
